Singles:

Ad Astra Per Aspera by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Very AU--a younger Clark is kidnapped and ends up in Lionel's Home for Mutational Children for Exploitationary Purposes. Well, that's not what he calls it, but still. Really long. Very rambling. But a *really* interesting read. Warning for sexual abuse and physical abuse, somewhat graphic.

Admit One by Gigi Sinclair
I ran across this on someone else's rec page and it's FIC I MISSED! *shocked* From A LONG TIME AGO! *grins* Anyway. Fun bit of Lex pov to read and enjoy. The movies just went so very, very wrong.

After by rageprufrock
Okay, how I forgot to rec I have no idea, but this bit of post-Insurgence fic is just--right. Bitter, edgy, and--very real. *sighs*

After the Storm by Caro
I can't actually remember if I recced it or just imagined I did, but it certainly can't hurt to read it again. Beautiful Clark POV and a lovely story.

After Time by Slodwick
This I loved. Bittersweet, painful, soft, and the kind of thing that makes me get misty. *sighs* It's just so beautiful. Poor Clark. Poor, poor Clark, dreaming a memory of what should have been, almost.

Air by Pearl-o
A sweet, subtle Clex vignette.

All the Trappings of Love by Pru
Heh. I like this. THe ultimate love triangle. I think I recced this while it was in LJ, but it's now posted to the SSA. Very fun, very funny, and very good.

Always by Slodwick
Beautiful, bittersweet, and lyrical--I'm seriously falling in love with Slodwick's wonderful, distinctive style in her work.

And Dark Our Celebration Was by Hth
Futurefic. See, I didn't even know I'd LIKE this one, tone and setting and the entire feeling of hopelessness and darkness, and it just doesn't END. You know from the first word that this is going to go badly. You don't need to be told that it's going to hurt. And you see these characters coming from a mile away and can't do a damn thing to stop it.

Aphrodesia by Lenore
Arguably, one of my favorite of the sudden-inexplicable-mating-urge Clark fics, beautiful emotional intensity and wonderfully written.

Apologies and Promies by Caro
Oh yes. Happy, lovely, wonderful Lex and Martha chat. Relationships and love and lunch. Totally will make your day bright.

Arcadia by valentine
Futurefic of the sweetest kind. Lex finds Clark after a few years.

As the Night the Day by Alax and Dana
You need something light and fun to read? The authors do a rather interesting remake of Pretty Woman for Clark. Just go with it. You'll enjoy the ride.

Bare the Cross by cjandre
CJ has this weird habit of writing layered stories--there's the characters and what they do and why they do it and then the reasons they *don't* know they're doing something and the reasons they're denying it to themselves. Clark's all caught up inside his own head and doens't want to admit why. Lex is magnificient--kind, but with that cold edge that makes him Lex.

Become by Ivyblossom
Lex watches his dad die and contemplates his life. Sort of. It's moving and heartwrenching, but what I liked best about it was Lex thinking he was objective when he's not objective at all.

Before the Songs Were Made by emerlin

I'm a huge whore for a good title--see the fact I tend to steal them if they appeal to me enough. But oddly, it wasn't the title that caught my attention this one time.

This did.

"I'll tell you something, though, Clark." He's so near now that he hardly needs to speak above a murmur. He is straddling Clark's thighs, feet rooted on either side of his body, legs splayed slightly to bring him near. Clark is still gripping the back of the bench, head back and chest rising rapidly with each breath. There isn't enough air down here, and Clark is beginning to wonder what life will be like with claustrophobia and agoraphobia when Lex speaks again.

"People will tell you that you need to conquer your fear. That you should make yourself the master of it, vanquish it and move on with your life the stronger for it." Clark is pretty sure who 'people' might be in Lex's case. He flashes on a vision of Lionel lecturing a young Lex, and shivers. The shivers grow as Lex leans in even tighter, now only inches away from his face. "But that's bullshit, Clark. The fear never goes. It never goes away."

I was just moving email, dammit. Stupid damned good lines.

I loved this for about a ton of reasons, but the biggest is how the author gave us the world with minimal fuss and backstory. A few lines here or there to sketch the basics, leaving the rest to pure imagination. It's a wonderful way to do it if the author's good enough to pull it off, and she most definitely is.

The dissonance between Clark and Lex is perfect--they're no where near enemies, but miles and miles away from close friends. The slightest edge of an unspoken armed truce that they both know will break and break soon, but for now--for now, it's all a fragile status quo.

Fear and what comes of it. Falling and flying. How you never really can get away from what you are. This is beautifully concieved and written, and highly recommended.

Benediction by Te
Beautiful. Different. Original. And, by far, the single sexiest story I have EVER read, het or slash.

Better by shallot
Again, the post-Jitters phase of fandom was VERY good to SV fic, Lex in particular. This is a Clark POV story, set the night after the plant, and probably has the slowest and most interstingly hot seduction I've read, barely crossing into explicit without ever losing the sheer heat of what's happening between them. The best of what GOOD h/c is, and beyond that, a fabulously realized Clark and a very vulnerable Lex.

Betting on the Truth by mahaliem
This Clark and this Lex are amazing. INcredibly well-written and well-dialogued.

Beyond Recognition by corinna_5
Wow. Futurefic, Lois, and a wonderful look at future Clark and the events that create the Rift. And it hurts. But so good.

Black Pond by Viridian
This is just FUN. Mutant fish, even.

Blood by Caro
Oh. Damn. Lucas and Lex and all that twisty-wrong Luthor family dynamics that screw with their heads. Lucas is a lot more Luthor than even he knows.

Blood-letting by Pearl-o
Soft, gentle, and painful view of Clark during the vulnerability of Leech. Low-key, sweet, and powerful.

The Blue We Breathe by stone_princess
A lovely Clex that has to ber read and savored. I mean, seriously. Savored slowly.

Boxed by Thamiris
Clark's exploration here is startling. AU through Metamorphosis. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Breathing Room by Nitelite
A post-Prodigal Lex fic. I like Lex's voice in this, introspective and not quite bitter

Bugging Clark by JoJo
That was just funny. I wish there'd been more, though. But still. Funny as hell.

Butoh, Dance of Darkness by mobiusklein
I have no idea what the crossover is, but frankly, not sure I care. The creep factor here is enormous, and the twist completely unexpected. AU indeed. And chilling as hell. Run, don't walk.

Capillary by Julian Lee
It's the little things, not the big ones, that'll catch Clark out in the end. It's deceptively simple, heartbreaking, and strangely inevitable. I like how Clark and Martha are drawn here. It aches, all of it. With a killer last line.

Catch You Coming Down by Basingstoke
Season three, after everything they've gone through and done. Lex wants to get drunk. Clark is more than he was. It's a wonderful, subtle view of the changes both boys have gone through since the end of season two--the people they were and the people they became and the people they are becoming. It's wonderful.

Ceremony of Innocence by Rivkat
Rivka does things with ubercomplex Lexes that always surprise me and always work. As a post-Visitor story, it clarifies everything we think we know about Lex and tells us things we may not. Clark's very Clark, but Lex is painfully Lex, with every dichotomy and every obsession. Read it.

Champagne Wishes by Te
Again, the post-Jitters Lex. For those who watched the transition, fanfic took a seriously interesting turn in the Lex characterization following Jitters. Te's Lex is a good example of that--vulnerable, jaded, not a little bitter, and dealing in his very Lex way. Another good Clark characterization, and I love their dialogue throughout.

Cheesecake or Death by Shrift
I love Shrift, and I love what she writes. Funny Lexness. I really can't give a higher compliment.

Chrysalis by Destina
I like subtlety and I like how the dark side doesn't happen with lightning and thunder, but with these tiny, inevitable steps toward the wrong side, and how Lex changes as it happens in those same tiny, inevitable ways. And most of all, I like that Destina showed far, far more than she told and let the reader not know until it was impossible to deny. All the drama here is in the subtext.

Collectable by Lemonlashes
It's--weird. But in a good way.

Coming Clean by Zahra
Clark does confessions at the oddest times. Very fun read.

Coming to Town by ingrid
I haven't chuckled this hard in awhile. Santa! Lex! Clark. REINDEER! And even Rudolf! Read and love.

Consequences Galore by mdl
I just love this fic. Second season, post-Heat, Clark is getting worried about Lex's mental health. So is Lex. Sex is involved. Everyone has a *great* time.

Context by Addicted Kitten
It's one of those improbable crossovers that just works and makes laugh and is fun and creates happy thoughts. Smallville/Nsync, Justin, Lance, Clark, and Lex, funny as hell. I mean, seriously. Fun.

Cooking Considered As One of the Fine Arts by Caro
Cookies! Wonderful Martha! Good characterizations all around, and watching Clark and Lex from Martha's point of view is wonderful.

Cupiditas by Abi
I love this one for a lot of reasons, not least of which is the plot and excellent dialogue. Highly recommended.

Curator of the Life and Death Museum by Punk
AU first seaon, post-Pilot, fascinating Lex and Clark. I can see this so easily and it could have happened. Another wonderful fic by a great author.

Deceit by Aklani
Creepy. Damn.

Delayed Reactions by Sleeps With Coyotes
The way that a first kiss is only the start. A series of disasters, raining toads, and green leeches interfere with consummation. And let me just say, whoa.

Demarcation by Livia
You know, she IS a goddess, she did the impossible with this story AND she did it with style. No spoiling, just read. You will feel soooo good.

Disconnect by Julian Lee
Oh. Wow. Now THAT is a new way of looking at Jonathan and his relationship with his son! I'm not sure I entirely agree, but I'm not sure I disagree either. In any case, a fascinating take on the entire idea, both of how Clark views his father and Lex's, and how Lex views his father, Clark's family, and Clark.

Drift by Rose Ferguson
Someone on TWoP recced this very highly, and so I wandered over, and oh MAN this was sweet! Perfect lovely story to read. Just--yes. So sweet. Floating. Mmm.

Drift by Sarah T - (Lionel)
An interesting view into Lionel's head and his relationship with his son.

Earthbound by Keelywolfe
Mmm. This--GOOD view into Lex's head. Sexy, nothing close to sweet, but hot as hell. Go read it.

Edges of White by Nitelite
This was--so sweet. Christmasy snugglefic, Lex-returns-fic, and I encourage the non-abuse of Lex very highly. It will leave you squishy and looking for hot chocolate.

Eleven Letter Words by Helena Handbasket
A whole new level of crossword fun. God, this was good. You'll have a blast. Continued in"Botta Secreta", "The Denny's Napkin Incident", and "Please Do Not Tease the Boy Scouts".

Else by Sleeps With Coyotes
Mmm. Sweet.

Faking It by Suz Voy
Clark needs some help from Clark. The pretending-to-date thing just goes so. Very. Wrong.

Family Portrait by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
In which Lionel died in teh meteor shower and eventually, Lex goes to live with the Kents. It's *cool*. In a very AU, very fun way. Long. Long, long, long.

February by Aklani
A sweet, barely-slash Clark and Lex, Clark POV. I love how beautifully and thoughtfully Clark's written in this one.

First by Caro
*grins* Only Caro could make a first date where theyr'e at second base and make it both hot and funny and so much fun. Perfect amounts of comfort and awkwardness.

First Date by Beth
Heh. Light, romantic, smutty, funny first time for the boys. Set after "Craving". You'll love it.

The First Four Years by Punk - NEW
I love almost-post-high-school fic. It starts with the prom and Chloe and ends with Lex and finals. In between is gorgeous, as Clark gets a sense of what he wants, which you know? This is our farmboy. It could totally take four *entire years* to get it. But we love him anyway, cause Lex does.

First Times by spyhop
Oh HELL yes. Clark's first times, one and two. Here be het, but deal, because seriously good and hot story of Clexness as well here. Loved it.

Forget by Henry Jones
Rhythmic, pretty, FUN story. Lex and growing up.

(I) Forget by Elizabeth - (Lex)
Brutal. Utterly chilling. Sharp, quick prose that cuts, Lex first person POV, as rare as good Starbucks coffee and one of the few that couldn't be written any other way. Lex tells a story about love and lust and wanting. Tells us about Lionel, too. And even more about himself and the kind of damage Lionel can create and will never be healed. Lex doesn't even know he's broken. He doens't know how not to obsess. And damn it, reading it after Visitor? Makes it all brand new again.

Four Things That Could Possibly Happen by dystocia
I love the Five Things challenge more every day. Four AUs, all of them so DAMN cool. Special atttention to one and three. Wow. Seriously, wow.

Free Falling by dystocia
Hmm. I like it. I'd be better able to review if it hadn't left me with this slight sense of discomfort at the end. The idea's fascinating, but that ending....

From the Outside by Victoria P
A Chloe POV that's startlingly accurate--but I've always pegged her as the most observant of the group.

Frozen by Pun
Mm. Happy post-Skinwalker. Revelation, of a sort, explanation, and some solid characterization going on. I liked how Lex came out here, and I love how Clark was characterized. So definitely read.

Genesis by RivkaT
Playing with time and space. It comes out so much better. If this is what you want to be better. Really *really* good, hints of a dark universe, and true love.

Getting to Know You by ingrid
The sheer creepiness of Red!Clark here is marvelous--kidlike, maniacal, dark, vicious, and amoral by turns and at the same time. Post-Exodus, very spoilery, and extremely well-written. I'm not getting over this one anytime soon.

The Giving Tree by zahra
The odd thing is, until last night while chatting with someone, I hadn't even, I think, HEARD of the story, then voila, this appears in my inbox. Very lovely, pure zahra. And it looks like I need to get to reading.

Golden Rule by RivkaT
As usual, she does an incredible job of writing both boys, and she plays with cliches like an artist, taking one and making it so fascinating you are riveted beyond belief. See, I knew it was a mistake to click on the link.

Clark is very Clark--the Clark I love and cuddle and want to protect from everything, because he hurts himself worse than anyone else ever could. Lex is wonderfully rich, with all those carefully hidden vulnerabilities and essential honesty written into every pore of his skin. And it's great, great. No spoilers. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hideaway by RivkaT
Sweet futurefic. Vacations for superheros and archnemeses. Big fun. Part of the Lois and Clark challenge. Clark and Lex have to take off work for a while.

Hiding in Plain Sight by Jessica
Jessica makes me melt, every time. Her single scenes are wonderful, and do Clark justice. Did I mention sweet? Because it is. Very much.

I Am the Cheese by Bexless
Micro-farts. Just read it first. If I explain it, I so won't get it right.

I Touch Myself by Abi
Don't let frightening images of Divine drive you off. It felt humorish at first, which was totally a mindtrick, and okay, the almost total dialogue at the beginning isn't what I'm used to seeing, but whoa. This is, in a lot of ways, a really cool way of seeing Clark, who isn't so much the uberdork at all, nor is he considered so by anyone. But man, he can still be stupid. But in a really, really smutty way, which I approve of.

Ice by Meredith
My new favoritest Smallville story. It makes me intensely happy every time I read it. Like dancing-happy. Metaphorically speaking. It's the cliche that Meredith makes new and shiny and it's the Lex I want to take home and feed soup, tuck into bed with Clark, and quietly lock the door and turn on the video camera. It's perfect. It's the REASON I read Clark/Lex, the reason I love it, and the reason I write it. I don't think fiction GETS any better than this.

Immanence by Sarah T
Clark goes to find an AWoL Lex. More or less. He finds more.

Immortality by Grail
Again, recced this one out every way to Sunday. I don't LIKE it, but Immortality isn't a story you sit down to read and adore. It's one you plow through and hope you come out on the other side okay, and everything changes in between. It's painful and unhappy and cruel and vicious and hurts in every way and it's one of the best stories I've ever read.

In the Bedroom by Misty - (Lana, Chloe, Lana/Chloe)

She did a LOT of things that surprised me. One, she worked inside canon and inside speculative canon. Two, she made me LIKE both Lana and Chloe equally, and trust me, that's an achievement. Three, she kept them in character, and managed to explain some of their more bizarre behavior on the show and make it reasonable. Four, she developed this so naturally that when the slashiness hit--it was perfect.

From Dichotic through the coming episode, she develops a both simple and complex relationship between two girls living together, both in love with the same guy, but also bonding with each other. It's a subtle story--Misty touches so lightly you have no idea where you're going until you get there, and it just seems right and natural once you do. The arguments are about Clark and yet have very little to do with him.

It Happened One Weekend by Mahaliem
Oh *man*. The alien from Nantucket meets Lex. This is just unreally-good. Engagement to Lana! Jor-El contemplating suicide by kryptonite! Lex driving a pinto! The walls of Troy! Stealing the Batmobile! And that's just to *start*.

Interstial by Punk
Another kind of futurefic. Clark's losing his powers, and he doesn't know why.

Insects by Jane St. Clair - (Lex, Lex/Lionel)
I said that all the cool incest stories had been done and should not be done anymore. Okay, so I was wrong. A different and vaguely freaky view of them, and wow. I mean it. Damn.

It's Not Easy by xoverau
I don't want to spoil it at all, so no comments, but it's a beautiful piece of work. Three prequels you need to read to get everything out of this.

Just Another Pleasant Smallville Sunday by Ciel
It starts with adventures. Hysterically fun. And solving the problem of how not to float.

Keep Your Head Down by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Warning for graphic violence. Lex is kidnapped. Eventually, he gets rescued. Lots of aftermath. The story rambles a *lot*, but it's a fun read and very Clark/Lex.

Kid's Game by Te
Hmm. See, this one I had to read three times before I decided I really, really loved it, which is weird, since this is Te, and I'd read her grocery list if she gave it a title. Lex was Lex, Clark was VERY Clark, and I didn't get a single question answered on any form of 'why'. Which on third read convinced me I loved this story and should frame it somewhere.

Kryptobiology by meret
Oh. My. God. I haven't laughed this hard in SO damn long! *still choking* Read it and simply love. Love love love!

Land of the Blind by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Luthorcest with a twist makes me happy. Lex twisting it personally is just ecstacy-inducing.

The Lazarus Gap by Dolimir
Really, really love this one. AU from season two ending. Lovely.

Le Dormer du Val by pun
Really, *really* good. Clark's tired and needs to rest. Lex takes him in. Futurefic, sweet, and lovely.

Learning Experience by Perryvic and Kat Reitz
Futurefic. Clark's in college and meets this guy. And there's a rodent involved, but not in a disturbing kinky way.

The Lent Effect by Carlanesses
Okay, I havent' seen this one recced much and okay, WHY? This is hysterical! Just--loved it. The sitch, poor Pete and Clark's bet, and how to resolve it. And dear God, the image of Clark pulling his hair just kills me every time. Wonderful story by another author added to The Stalk List, because seriously? Do not want to lose this one. Funny, hot, and hee! That ending. *grins*

Lex Libris by Beth
Yippee! Birthday fic! *hugs Beth* Thank you chica! Also, VERY hot and VERY funny. I loved this story in first draft and I love it even more now. Clark, being methodical about seduction, and Lex--well, going with it. *grins* I almost choked on soda reading this and it only gets better with every read.

Lex on the Beach by Slodwick
Okay, so it's not het or gen, but I never read it before! For which I feel remarkably dumb. But okay. Pretty, pretty, HOT Lex pov PWP. On a beach. Voyeurism for fun. Yes. Very happy.

Lied by Mereid
Hee! Okay, so Clark lies. But it's for *good* reasons.

The Lionel in Winter by Ciel
Lionel calls the family home for Christmas. Because he is getting podlike. Lucas and family come too. Funniest. Christmas. Ever.

Look! Up in the Sky! by xoverau
Hysterical! Butterflies and some EXCELLENT dialogue. You will enjoy!

Love for Sale by Lenore
Another of those fabulous and fun Hooker!Clark fics. A lovely AU, post second season rush of smutty goodness.

Love Games by Madelyn
Awww. How sweet. So. Very. Sweet.

Macellum by Sylvia
Mmm. Hard AU. Brothersfic. Luthor powergames. And I dearly love it. Run with it.

A Mad Season by Dolimir
This one is unexplainable, so read only. Interesting use of Batman, too.

Make Me Happy by AshJay
Threesomeness and wow, hot? Yes. Especially the imagery of Clark with a red K tongue ring which is possibly one of the best ideas I've heard in a looong time. Vaguely creepy ending, especially about going to see Lex after--I'm just wondering if he'll survive long enough to orgasm. *grins* Read and enjoy.

Make Room by Pru
Prodigal-fic, and so--well, so LEX it just works. Especially fond of how Lex mulls how he fits in Clark's home.

Manual Labor, Two Tranqs, and Half a Flask by Devin
Yippee! More birthdayfic! Whoa. Hot. Devin KNOWS how to bring out longing and need and what you can't quite have and use it like a brick to throw at you. Beautifully written, aching, and sweet. Though Clark? Really. Next time? Conscious.

Maturity by Pru
I'm a huge fan of bitter, figuring-it-out Lex. This *hurts*. Post-Suspect painfic, Lex pov. Beautifully written.

May Day by Basingstoke
Pretty smutty May Day outside smuttiness.

Mercy by Koi
Koi takes apart a possibility--how Lex will react to Clark being alien. And she does it brilliantly.

Merrily On High by emelerin
I love happy Christmasy fic.

The Milk and Cookie War by Punk
Clark is too subtle for his own good. Poor Lex has no idea why this is happening to him.

The More Things Change by Nifra Idril
Five stories, five different possibilites, and so amazingly *diverse*. I had an especially fun time with two and five.

Naughty and Nice by Caro
I love Christmasy cuteness and this is definitely one of the most fun.

Near Fifth and Vine by martianhousecat
And MHC, I love you, but--damn. Beautiful, elegant, and bittersweet future Clexness. There's so much regret here it aches with it.

Needful Things by Penelope Z
Penelope still blows my mind stylewise. No spoilers, read cold. For her especially, interpretation is everything.

Nemesis by Jojo
Lex and Clark are lousy archnemeses. They are so damn *funny*.

A Nice, Friendly Game by Koimistress
Isolation!Fic. Clark challenges Lex. And they have sex. Big fun for everyone.

No Darker Than Yours by RivkaT
Explicit violence. Very explicit violence. Don't let that dissuade you from reading, just know you'll hit it and wince. Multipairing, a really *interesting* problem-solving exercise involving green kryptonite. And Clark/Lex goodness. Very good stuff.

Nonstop to Nowhere by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Very AU. Clark as a Luthor. Clark as a *slutty* Luthor. I never see bad in that.

Not Less Than Everything by Isagel
Clark and Lex. The style is a little erratic, but it works for this. I love how this comes together at the end.

Of Epistles and Ephiphanies by Nifra Idril
It's a lovely Clark pov that just works. And I'm bitter against him, so there you go. Works.

Omiai by Rose Emily
I love this. Arranged marriage, odd reasons, and jealousy. Bits of Clark/Chloe for the secret shippers among you. Very AU.

On Something Like Being Simple by Zahra
A beautiful, stylish, almos rhythmic story about Lex and loneliness. Except not exactly. Just read. You'll see.

One of These Days by chelle
Helen's life as Lex's wife. I can see this. Wonderful view of Helen and her ability to be completely blind to what she doesn't want to see. Or believe.

One Thousand Miles by Zahra
A beautifully written, aching Lucas POV of a difficult life. Highly, highly recommended.

Pass by Tim Ian

Huh. Now this I didn't expect, though I'm not entirely sure what I did expect when I started reading.

Excerpt:

Clark,

During the era of open discrimination, pale-skinned blacks would occasionally hide their ancestry and live as though they were white. This phenomenon was known as "passing." Those that passed felt this strategy to be their best chance at avoiding the bigotry and persecution inflicted upon their brethren.

It takes a certain kind of bravery to live as something you are not, just as it takes a different kind of bravery to be punished for who you are. Both choices exact a price.

Read this now. Extremely good, thoughtful, and different.

Past Grief by Te
Shit. Which is what I said after reading the beginning and becoming intensely happy. I like dark AUs. I like to watch all the characters be both extraordinarily fucked up and really well-adjustedly fucked up, which is that balance you just don't see very often. Sociopaths need love and security just like the rest of us, you know? Just so dirty in a nice, scarily logical way that STILL makes me smile.

Personal Call by shellah
Mmm. Phone things. Yes. Those kind.

A Picture of Home by Wendi
Sweet, light, beautifully written futurerfic piece, Clark right after college and Lex coming into his own. The interactions are perfectly natural, old friends reconnecting after an absence, moving easily into more without a misstep. Also hot, but that's beside the point. It's like happyfic central here.

The Presence of Fire by RivkaT
Whoa. Shifting timeframe futurefic--Clark tries to fix Lex. Not entirely successful. No better way to put it.

Primary by velvetglove
This is a comfort fic. A beautifully unhappy Clark is bitter. Fran, OC sister, is wonderful and I love how she moves the plot forward. Lex is Lex. Futurefic and lovely.

Prophet of Eden by Destina
Time travel and past mistakes. One of my favorite Smallville fics of all times as Lex tries to fix the past from the future.

Promise Again by Chlaal
Ooh. Red-verse ficness. Responsibility, Kal-style.

The Proposition by Emerlin
In which Clark becomes Demi Moore in An Indecent Proposal. Sort of. And Lex acts like a pod person for a while.

Put You Half to Sleep by Sandy, Roswell/Smallville
whore for bleak futures, you know. Roll *right* over. I also whore for Lex, but that's kind of a given. It's not the future that's become so sad, but the person that chose to live it. My Roswell is years old and only a season and random eps, but this resonated with me. Plus, you know. Roswell/Smallville. Does any crossover in history, besides, say, X-Files, make so damned much sense?

Pyrrhic by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Hmm. To be honest, this should be three stories, not one, with three separate plotlines, but--besides that. One of the most disturbing Luthorcests, with a lovely Clark/Lex chaser. Well-written, good dialogue, and really *really* hard to put down.

Quite an Extraordinary Boy by Brenda Antrim
Wonderful. Just wonderful.

Rainbow Sign by RivkaT
Rivka does amazing things with a future Clark in college, Lex, and some fun pretending that isn't pretending after all.

A Real Boy by CJandre

The Alien!Clark genre isn't exactly hip-deep in incredibly good stories, but then, it has CJ, who writes incredibly good stories, so I really can't say that anymore. Clark's an *alien*. And CJ plays with that in a way I didn't expect.

In the dream there were colors without names, which shifted and flowed like oil on water. Some of the colors were good to eat.

But in the dream he didn't know oil, or water, and eating did not require a mouth.

There were words that weren't sounds and touches that weren't from hands. These soothed him even though they weren't real, even though he knew it was the ship.

Ship.

That concept did not change. Not like touch, water, and food. The ship never changed.

Not even when he did.

Realize by Prufrock
Slash-light but also--all there. Make sense? Lex is thinking. He has Helen, but not quite what he needs. Beautiful. And? Makes that ending to Visage make SENSE.

Red Tape by Lenore
Okay, so Lex has this *great* idea to help out Superman with the entirety citizenship thing. Really fun.

Resistance is Futile by Kellie
Heh. Clark finds out Lex is engaged and doesn't take it too well.

Resolutions by SugarRush
*grins* I liked this for a lot of reasons, but most especially, I did like the Lex and Jonathan convo. I'd love to see more fic tackle the fact they were both seduced (how much on Jonathan's part is in question) by the same woman. Fascinating stuff.

Respire by MHC
I pimped the LJ version, double pimping the SSA one, finalized and posted. I read--a LOT. I don't get hit like this very often. This hit and it hurt and it made me think. Because Clark's secrets aren't just dangerous in knowing them. They're just as dangerous in the not-knowing, too. Very, very, very highly recommended.

Ride by The Spike
Mmmm. Boys in limos. Pretty.

Room 29 by gila
Clark wanders off. Lex goes after. I never, ever get tired of these stories. *G*

Ruat Caelum by RivkaT

I'm in LOVE with this story. Seriously, just utterly infatuated with everything here and everythign that wasn't said and every possibility. Just--gah. Like this huge reminder that Smallville isn't even CLOSE to being tapped for great ideas.

Required reading should be "The Presence of Fire", if for no other reason than that the compare/contrast is fun to do in terms of characterization. To really give yourself a rush, try Ruat, Presence, Incarnadine, then Philadelphia in a row. Kind of like breathing pure oxygen for a bit. You will feel dizzy and disconnected from the world after, big time.

And it made me think again, both about Smallville itself AND the complexities that are possible in this universe, which this season so far hasn't done much for me.

The creepiness factor was so flawless I spent most of the story not only not really caring who won, Clark or Lex, the little battles between them were just so fascinating in themselves, but actively wondering if the world was that great with superheros. Not because they were bad, but well....

I really wanted more backstory. Not for the story itself, because it was exactly right in how much it showed, told, and hinted at, but just for the curiosity factor. I loved how we got from SV to here with minimal explanation--it was all the explanation I really needed to get into the story.

Clark wasn't what I expected--or he was, in a way I didn't expect. He could compromise, right, but was still himself, which is probably one of the best extrapolations of how SV Clark became Superman I've seen.

Lex rocked. Oh hell yes. I'm all for letting him lose his brakes and go all out--not sociopathic so much as utterly determined, driven, this--whatever it was inside him that made him want so badly, that drove him. I think Clark was wrong in this part. Because he didn't want to believe the other option.

Lex was adaptable, and could be kept busy. He'd return to the science that should have been his first love, and almost was even with Lionel's cruel pruning and training.

Lex, in this story, in the show, to me, always comes out as a natural leader, a natural conqueror, just completely set in the wrong time period to do it. What Clark might never acknowledge, probably can't, is that without the Justice League to stop him, Lex would have been in the history books as probably one of the greatest rulers ever. Great rulers are almost always the ones that have that streak of pure, utter ruthlessness in them. If Lex had been born, maybe, two hundred years earlier? Different world they'd live in currently. He just had the bad luck to be born in a time and place where autocrats aren't accepted as the standard.

Not that it seemed to slow him down much in this story.

Though--

Clark spends a lot of the story being almost viciously realistic. Which was nice to see, since I don't think anyone's idealism could stand up to what he's gone through. I like practical superheros--idealistic ones annoy me to tears. I like the fact he acknowledges that the Justice League doesn't have the right to regulate human behavior. Save them, yes. Make their choices for them, no. Act as judge, jury and executioner, no. Which is another creepish thought in my never-ending worry about superheros banding together and creating their own--thing. It's just far too easy to sit around and pass judgement and think, we could make this MUCH better if we just took over for the normal people and proactively save them from themselves.

Not that I'm against the idea. *g* You know, if I were a superhero.

Back to Clark. So he's realistic to the point of disillusionment up to--Lex. Who, in some ways, is his blind spot. Not that he doesn't acknowledge Lex's dark side, but that he thinks, not necessarily that he can fix it, but thinks he can keep it under control.

The AI is going to have a blast observing them for however long Clark can keep Lex locked. Big time. I'm wondering how long Clark can do it, actually--like Lex, he's driven to the point of not caring about the cost. It'd be interesting to see how much eroding Lex can do of Clark in basic isolation and captivity.

I suppose the part that really got to me was that they were in love without any--*thinks*--I'd say illusions, but that's not the right word. More as if they didn't acknowledge that it DID hinder them, if that makes sense. Which was possibly the reason Lex failed to completely win and so did Clark. Maybe a mutual blindspot in their psyches, or the one place both of them refused to compromise on. I'm still not sure.

I LIKE not being sure. This is so interpretable I could read it a few dozen times and never come to the same conclusions twice.

*sighs* I'm in love. I have much re-reading to do. Oh so much.

Ruby Truth by Valentine Michael

Whatever you're doing, just stop. Don't care what. Leave the heart patient on the table. Okay, if yo'ure reading this, you're not doing surgery, so you have no excuse. Read this now. I want someone to discuss it with. I'd like to devote a damn entry to this.

No actual Clex, though either intentional or unintentional slashiness. A plotline that's solid, but you know? Secondary to what I love here. Some interesting new characters. And a meaty, gripping story with Clark, Red Kryptonite, and an AU we've all played with and Valentine has taken to the next level.

Read it. Read it and enjoy it and think what-if. Ah yes, this reminds me why every so often fanfic kicks me in the teeth and makes me like it.

The Rules of Blue by Thamiris
This is hysterical, and hot, and so Lex. He makes obsession look incredibly hot. And not a little psychopathic. But in a good way.

The Russett Taint by Kirstin Sea
So I read this story. And I'm still working out why I like it. I mean, not in a I'll-ever-read-this-again way, because it just isn't the kind of story I go back to for a lift in mood, you know? And I'm almost sure that the characterization isn't really what I would have expected--except you know, right in this story, especially if I think of Kal mand some of the more interesting characterizations of Lex during Season One, it really, really does, at least for the length of time it took to read it. Amazingly good.

Safe by Elizabeth
The author of the unforgettable (I) Forget, the single creepiest Lex fic in creation, this one introduces Supergirl and yes, it's creepy and sad and disturbing and strangely hot. Read now. Now nownownownow.

The Same River by Isagel
Wow. A new and powerful variation on PonFarr!Clark.

Satisfying by sa.
Um. Hot. With food. And kinks. *g*

The Scientific Method by Sarah T
Pretty, pretty, hilarious story. Love it, love it, love it.

Seduction by Lenore
Because it's--creepy. And right. And still so damn creepy. Clark and Lionel is just a pairing that knee-jerk yells 'no no no' yet reading you this just end up saying, 'yes yes yes'. And you know? Can't see how Clark's getting over THIS anytime soon. The worst part is, this is one thing he can't ever tell. God. Dammit. Poor Clark.

Self-Defense by Tiffany Rawlings - NEW
The hotness cannot enough be stated. Wow.

The Seventh Day by Melo
A bittersweet glimpse at a future Superman. Hurts. Muchly.

Shattered by Dolimir

Without fail, this author blows my mind.

He thinks one of the things he'll miss most is the way the sky turns the most beautiful shade of amber just minutes before sunset, making the fields of swaying corn look like waves in search of a beach; although he's never been able to convince himself that the joyfully gliding swallows are seagulls.

Shift in Perception by Andariel (Clark, Clark/Lana, Clark/Lex)
Stylish, sweet, wonderful view of first times.

Simian Groove by Sleeps With Coyotes
Beautifully hot Clex smut. Mmmm.

Skin Deep by RivkaT
A marvelous retelling of the classic boy-changes-to-girl. Clark pissed off the cave. Lex here is wonderful. Slash that's also het. Hee!

Sleeper by Te
It took me a while to get what Te was doing--I knew I liked it, knew instinctively she was saying something about how the lessons that sink in are the ones that are personal, but the way Clark teaches here--Jesus. Some people educate by example, by lecture, by abuse. Clark does it with the body count in a way that Lex can't ever, ever escape. One night at a time.

So Like a Rose by Brighid
This is one of my favorite short fics of all time. It's not just the beautiful, lyrical prose, or the lovely characterizations, or even the way she makes me buy a first-person POV of Lex, which is hard to do. It's how it's all brought together in one lovely, heartwrenching, bittersweet package. It just makes me smile every time.

Something Less by Sara
I like this one for everything that Lana can pretend she doesn't see. The subtle Lana and Chloe is wonderful.

Spare Room by Caro
Adorable Prodigial missing scene. And what should definitely have happened!

Springtime Snow by shellah
It's sweet. And hot. And makes me very happy. Vive la Clex. Especially the cold weather kind.

The Stuff of Legend by Privatetentacle
Clark's inner twelve year old finds meaning in an eighties movie. Really *fun*.

Such a Pretty Face by Abi
Clark has this--physical problem. And Lex is marrying Lois. It can get worse. And it does.

Sunburn by Penelope Z
When you have a style and you use like a razor to cut, when the creepiness is all in what isn't said, and when the descriptors are what make you shiver--again, these people are the reason I love fanfic. Amazing, horrifying, and so subtle and so blatant at the same time. Penelope does it again and dammit, this is good.

Sunday Brunch by fabrisse
*grins* I love how she writes teh boys, and this is just. So. Hot. And fun. A hot, hot day, straw, and talking through your fantasies.

Superfreak by Livia
Post-Stray. Clark realizes he wants Lex! Hot. Very hot.

Svaha by Tara LJC
I always forget how *good* first times are. And no, not first-time sex--that first kiss. All that surprise and worry and awkward sweetness and wonder. I mean--wow. You have to *read* this. Now.

Sweet Dreams by Bexless
Bittersweet Lex POV, covering several different time periods. Beautifully written Lex that I can sink into, and lovely introspection.

Switch by RivkaT
One of my favorite body-switch fics ever. The writing is sharp, Lex's pov is hysterically resigned, and poor Clark is just wondering how weird this can possibly get. I love all her work, but this one made me laugh out loud.

Tell by RivkaT
I'm not sure, but I suspect Rivka's main reason for writing is to see how very, very much she can creep us out. Can't prove it or anything. I'm good with this. I encourage the creepiness. And the hurtness of Lex. As long as I can fix him in my head. *hugs Lex* She's GOOD. And it hurts. Poor woobie.

The Telling of All This by Tiffany Rawlings - NEW
Hmm. I really have no idea how to put this one. It's the language. The tone. Those English class level words of feeling a story instead of just reading it. Her Lex is amazing.

The Temperate Tomcat by Ingrid
Ingrid single-handedly fixes Bound. Trust me, it so helps.

Thebes by Hope
It's hard AU, a different time, a different place, and somewhat different people. I'm not entirely sure I buy it as Smallville, but then again, I don't think it could be anything else, and it's excellent on its own merits.

Thin Line by xoverau
Wows. I mean--it's dark and squicky and disturbing and very, very, very right. First of the definitive Lex/Lionels, and fabulously complex.

Thirsty Earth by Maude M
I was so thrilled when Maude dropped this story into the group last year, and it hurt in the ways that I didn't expect and yet--did. Maude's got a fine, light touch with her characters in the future--Lex the Lex we know and yet we feel we just might not, Clark very Clark, and a love that can survive everything, even if the relationship can't. It's--again, the inevitiability that we see building from the first scene to the last. Like Chrysalis, the dark side's all about those steps that look like nothing until they culminate and become this. Use of flashbacks, future to past, and it's a story that just isn't read by enough people. Just be ready to hurt.

This by Julian Lee
It's--interesting. Clark goes to visit Lex. At night. Yeah.

The Tick of the Universe by Penelope Z
I love her style period, and I love how she writes Lex and Clark. Melodic, beautiful, and bittersweet. Vintage Penelope.

Ties by Jojo
Jojo gives good plot. Excellently characterized Clark and Lex, interesting Lois. Like muchly.

Til You're Tested by Pablo
This is good. An interesting introspection of Clark.

Total Immersion by Livia
Clark. French Lessons. Good things.

Totally Organic by Sleeps with Coyotes and Rana Eros
Okay, this is so--. AU. I mean, but hysterically, wonderfully so. Lionel buys Clark for Lex. And then there is hotness.

A Touch of Mercy by dolimir
I thought this was very sweet. And I liked Clark here. Heh. *pets Clark*

Three Fairy Tales of Smallville by Koimistress
Three stories in the style of the "Five Things That Aren't True", with three AUs, each very different from the last. I adored the first, loved the second, but the third creeped me out and whoa, that was good. Read.

Trinity: Three Things That Didnt' Happen to Lionel Luthor by Serrico
Oh DAMN. Strange, surreal, WEIRD, and so damn cool. No spoilers, because dammit, it needs to be read straight through.

Twenty-One by Livia
Okay, so I never thought about it. It was assumed. Livia, of course, DID think about it, and went with it, and DAMN was that just cool. In which Lex figures out a few things that should be self-evident, and I don't think coming out of the closet has EVER been done with such minimal stress and wonderful humor.

Two Voices by dolimir
An interesting--and VERY different--bit of AU-ness that cannot be described adequately. I was a little thrown by the Lex at the end, but otherwise, it was absolutely lovely and solid and damned fun to read straight through.

Undertow by elynross
A long afternoon read. I like this one for a LOT of reasons, not least of which is how much goes ON in there. Swimming, UST forever and a day, angst, and some damn hard work lead into the very well-written Clark/Lexness. It's not just hot--it makes the characters work to GET there. Clark and Lex are both well-rounded, interesting, angsty, and just a LOT of fun to follow along with on the ride.

Undone by Hope
Another of the ones where the rift and crossing over happen so inevitably that you don't know it's happening until it has. Hope's touch is careful when necessary, blunt where we need it. Slick and painful, her background in the Homicide fandom makes this work, and her ability to achieve atmosphere makes the story move beyond tragic and into masterpiece. Beautiful and painful.

The Very Cliche Motel Clex Fic by nortylaK
The title really says it all.

The Very Secret Thoughts of Clark Kent by Viridian
I love this story so much it hurts.

Waiting for Yes by shalott
Ouch. And ouch. And thank you GOD, yes. Futurefic, with a dash of inevitablity. So go read. Now

A Warlike Prince by Nifra Idril
It broke my heart. But everything Nifra writes does. Beautiful fourth season Lex, less sane, more bitter, and so close to the edge.

Wetwork by Destina
I have MISSED her in SV ficdom, and until I read, I had no idea how much. Structurally creative in the backwards motion, beautifully written (what else can you expect from her?), sweet, and the story works fabulously in the chosen structure--in some ways better than a more traditional way. Really. Read her and send comments--this is an EXCELLENT story.

We're Straight, No Really by Cjandre
The characterizations are so. Damn. Cool. They are both so straight.

What He Wants by Brancher
This one was just beautiful. The moment of realization as Clark realizes what Lex is after. Not songfic, but the author uses music well. I really need to download this song.

What You Want by TheSpike - NEW
Aliens make them have sex! And there are happy little bees involved.

Whipped by Mako
Yummy. Great, great, fun lines. Love Mako. Rocks.

White Bees and Sunflowers by Velvetglove
There is no way to do this story justice, and being unspoiled is a much better idea. Strange, disturbing, early season three, post-Shattered and Asylum.

The White Room by Andariel
Light, icy prose and spooky damn concept and dark all wrapped in a deceptively calm looking package. LOTS of mileage in red symbolism that is--well, highly appropriate.

Wider Than the Sky by Nitelite
I'm a sucker these days for Ryan fic. So shoot me. This was sweet and I liked it.

Witness Triptych by theSpike
I'm still mulling why I like this one. I like the history. I like the fact that this was a far better fic than the episode, and considering I liked Zero, that's saying something. Beautiful, lyrical, and wonderful look at Lex.

Words by Chelle
Okay, kink definitely. Lovely, emotional, and hot? Also. I like how she wrote this. Sweet, tender, and different.

Worth by Zahra
A view into what Clark means to Lex. Deadly accurate characterization.

The Year of the Dragon by Zahra
Zahra is hands down the best Lucas writer so far--she's got a clean grasp of his character that appeals to me. Liv calls Lucas 'feral' and I think zahra shows that best. Raised without even the illusions of bonds to other people, without care for anyone but himself, and this story especially shows the result of a lifetime of this.

Series

Expectations by Beth (Smallville, Clark Lex)
Hee! Parody, humor, beautifully written, and mpreg. CLex mpreg. You MUST read.

Trio by Corinna
Lex gets weird. They break up. And that's only how it starts. A lovely trio of just fun stories in the lives of Lex and Clark. Futurefic. Fun.

The Seven Year Itch
Some Like It Hot
How to Marry a Millionaire

Untitled duo by Jane St. Clair - (Smallville, Lex, Clark/Lex)
Carrying on the tradition of bringing in Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson to play in Smallville canon, Jane goes about it a slightly different way. Lex is so Lex he's pitch perfect throughout, and the introduction of Dick to Smallville is wonderful. Clark is--*thinks*--not so much canon-perfect than how I wish the show would HAVE him. He's smart, perceptive, fun, and more than that, acts like a teenager without being cliched or annoyingly whiney and stupid. The first time is lovely and I like how the entire storyline develops.

Smog
Ozone

Nicky'verse by Jessica (Clark/Lex)
A series of AU stories following Lex and Clark through a very different kind of life.

Series by Jojo
Triple pov, Lex, Clark, Lois, and I can't put my finger on why I liked it so much, except the rhythm was addictive, almost sharp. Futurefic, and--hmm. I would have sincerely loved more backstory, but this is intensively here-and-now, and I liked that too. Very, very interesting reading.

Predictably
Different

Trio by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
Dating from the beginning of the third season through futurefic, loosely tied together. The first and third are the best.

Cumulus

Cirrostratus

duo by Kellie Matthews
I read these about once monthly to reconnect with my favorite ficcing time, the post-Jitters/Victoria arc. Some of the most interesting Lex fanfic has come out of that time period. These are Long Reads--a full plotline and arc, character development, work to get from the UST to the consummation, and all of it is beautifully written and developed. Clark and Lex are wonderful--again, unlike the show sometimes shows, Clark the teenager gets to BE a teen without making you want to strangle him, and Lex is great. I loved the pacing--we get to see the characters interact, feeling their way around each other before moving into sex, and I love that. Both stories do justice to the characters and to the universe that created them. An incredibly satisfying read, start to finish.

MeteOros
Eos

Divergence Series by Lanning - (Clark/Lex, others)
Again, plot. Character development. Serious, serious work for the boys to get together, but also, A, B, C, AND D plotlines. Multi-pov. Character change. Well written original characters that are not only interesting but distinctive. Extra points for fascinating, sympathetic use of Jonathan Kent to the point where I like the man. Lex and Clark are marvelous, well rounded, fascinating, addictive to read. So much goes on throughout--from Lex's escape from Metropolis, through the Kents and their slowly eroding suspicions, Clark's determination and honesty, to Lex's slowly developing ability to believe and trust himself. This is still a WiP, but do NOT let that stop you from reading. Lanning is flawless in putting this story together and it can only get better from here on out.

Among the very first authors I read in SV and still an absolute favorite. A wonderful set of episode codas and extensions.

Lessons in Cruelty
Lessons in Conspiracy

Lumina by Kassie and Lar
This still stands out as one of the best series I've read, starting off in slow pre-slash and moving onto some of the best Clark/Lex I've ever read. The entire journey, Clark's discovery, the pace, are all perfect. I especially love Clark in this--consistent with the show, but better, because he's also interesting and engaging as he comes to grip with both himself and his attraction to Lex. Lex is beautifully Lex throughout, and there's almost an ache throughout as the storyline develops.

Duo by Meredith Lynn
I'm seeing a pattern develop in what I'm picking out for today. Again, development. Start off with two characters, basing down their connection and why, moving on to attraction, with PLOT. I like plot. One might say I really, really love it. Then again, I really like Long Reads, where everyone has to work REALLY hard to get to the orgasms. This set especially works for me as late as now, despite the fact it's based off of early first season canon. The characterizations are very sharp, and I simply love how Merry writes Lex--intelligent, cynical, jaded, but also hopeful and believing. It's a hard combination to pull off successfully and she manages it every time without a misstep. The banter is absolutely fabulous.

The Middle of Nowhere
The Road Home

Coffee Talk Series by Mercutio
This is FUN. Great premise, hysterical conversation, and--coffee. What's not to love?
